Sierra del Vallejo Birding Tour

Our Sierra del Vallejo Birding tour takes guests to three unique habitats for a bird watching tour unlike any other. The tour starts off in the Sierra del Vallejo Biosphere Reserve, then we make a stop at San Pancho, and finally Sayulita. Each of these destinations represents a different type of habitat - tropical forest, dry forest, and shoreland - allowing guests to receive a very wide and diverse bird watching tour.

The tour starts off at Sierra del Vallejo, a biosphere reserve located inland from Nuevo Vallarta. Here, the fresh water Ameca River meets with the saltwater Pacific Ocean, creating a unique estuary environment that is home to many species. The species that we typically encounter at Sierra del Vallejo include Black-bellied tree duck, seagulls, herons, parrots, pelicans, great blue heron, roseate spoonbill, and various other kinds of ducks, among other species.

The tour then heads out by van towards San Pancho and Sayulita, two unique vacation destinations that are unlike your typical Puerto Vallarta vacation. You will enjoy a light breakfast and then continue the bird watching adventure. As we explore the tropical deciduous forest, keep your eyes and binoculars peeled for sightings such as San Blas jays, Green jays, Long-tailed Hermit Hummingbirds, Dry forest Citroline trogon, Chachalacas, Yellow-winged Caciques, Happy wrens, flycatchers, motmots, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, kiskadees, and parakeets.
