San Sebastian Western Birds & Culture

San Sebastian Western Birds & Culture

San Sebastian del Oeste is one of the most unique hidden gems outside of Puerto Vallarta. A historic mining town that was once the regional capital, today the old buildings are well preserved and the town is in close proximity to some of the most stunningly beautiful natural landscapes. The area is home to a massive diversity of bird species, making it one of the best destinations for bird watchers. The town is located in the Sierra Madre Mountains, some 4,500 feet of elevation. The town was founded in 1605 and was once one of Mexico’s top hubs for gold and silver mining. Most of the structures still found in San Sebastian are over 100 years old and have not changed since that time. Because of all this, San Sebastian del Oeste is listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. In other words, this is a must-not-miss destination for any Puerto Vallarta visitor.

On the San Sebastian Western Birds & Culture tour, we let you explore the charming historical city of San Sebastian, but we also take you out to the best spots for bird watching. The town is located in an area of pine and oak forest that is home to a wide diversity of species including Pygmy Owls, Chestnut sided vieros, Acorn woodpeckers, Mexican Jays, Blue Mockingbirds, Grey collared Becards, Magpie Jays, Painted Redstarts, and Red Warblers, just to mention a few!
